9. Sultans North Male, Maldives

Do 1,190 gorgeous coral islands, deep blue seas, turquoise reefs, white sandy beaches and palm trees sound good to you? Sounds great to us! In a place that is more sea than land, one of the best parts about surfing the Maldives is that everyone is capable of taking home some brag-worthy barrels.

March to October is the best time to surf in the Maldives, with the biggest waves likely to occur in June, July and August. The typical Maldive wave rolls up like most point breaks with workable corners, fun pockets and long rides.

The Northern Atoll of Male is the most famous surfing area in the Maldives with popular breaks spread out over about twenty kilometres. Thirty minutes from the airport, you'll find Jailbreaks followed by Honky’s, Sultans, Pasta Not, Ninja, Lohis, Cokes and Chickens.

Did you know...?
With an average ground level of 1.5 metres above sea level, the Maldives is the lowest country on earth. It is also the country with the lowest natural highest point in the world, at just 2.4 metres. Don't worry, the waves range from 3-8 feet!
