Top 10 Surf Spots

5. Mavericks California, USA

Not for the faint-hearted, nor the inexperienced, Mavericks is a winter destination for some of the world's best big wave surfers. You’ll find Mavericks three kilometres from shore in Pillar Point Harbor, north of Half Moon Bay at the village of Princeton-By-The-Sea.

After a strong winter storm in the northern Pacific Ocean, waves here can routinely reach over 24m! Since 1999, an invitation-only contest is held at Mavericks every winter, depending on wave conditions.

Due to be released in October 2012, Gerard Butler and Elisabeth Shue will star in Chasing Mavericks, the inspirational true story of real life surfing phenomenon Jay Moriarty. Check out the trailer below.
